I think that Jesus must have been fun to be around. We read in the Gospel’s how little children crowded around him, and children love to have fun, to laugh and mess around. It was great this week to be able to pop in and see Lorraine, our Children & Families worker, in action. On Monday the holiday club was in full flow with Lorraine running round like crazy. The kids just loved being around her. On Wednesday she was still at it, only this time with the Parent & Toddler group. She had hired inflatables and they were all set out in Union Road. I’m not sure who was having more fun, Lorraine and the parents or the children!
Children loved to be around Jesus too. I doubt that he was boring and I bet that they felt safe with him, knowing that they were loved and listened to. I know that there are times when we have to be serious, but I do feel that we can often miss the point. When I think of all that Jesus has done for me, and of this church the wonderful folk that make up the congregation, or when I hear of someone becoming a Christian, my natural response is praise and thankfulness. I love to be around Jesus and to be in his presence, to feel safe and know that he listens to me. Yes, church should be fun.
