Do you ever wonder whether God likes you? It’s almost easier to believe that God loves us, we hear it all the time, it’s his nature, God is love. It’s like loving you is God’s job! But does he like you? Would God hang out with you? Maybe go for a coffee, take a walk or a pedal, watch the match together?
Humility is a wonderful characteristic, it’s one of the things that Jesus changed, not just in his followers, but culturally. Humility is admired across our culture and arrogance is frowned upon. The arrogant are soon taken down by our media or by social commentators (themselves often rather arrogant). Before Jesus, humility was not a valued attribute, within Roman and Greek culture humility was synonymous with weakness, but Jesus changed all that.
However, in our humility we can often forget that we are fearfully and wonderfully made; we can be dragged down into thinking that we’re not good enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough, not hard working enough, not loveable enough, not popular enough, this is not humility, this is poor or false self image.
You are made in the image of God, you are heir to the Kingdom of God, co-heirs with Christ! You carry something of the divine within you! God loves you so much that he sent his son to die for you so that you could be redeemed and brought into relationship with him. You are so important and so capable that God has invested the future of his plans in you and in your brothers and sisters in the church! God says you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
This is who you are, a precious and loved child of God, this is your God given identity.
